CHAPTER 17
FEATHER
Feather woke in the morning from
clanking sounds and bangs, the gourds were opening the cells, removing the
bonds, and tossing in food. The smell was terrible, it was like decaying fish. “Oh
boy!” Someone squealed from in Feather’s cell, “my favorite part of the day!”
Bark-Fur exclaimed. “And it’s not the food, yuck! That stuff is horrible- it’s
the only time I can talk to anyone!” she made a little wiggle and wagged her
tail. Feather had never really meet Honey’s friend, but she wasn’t really what
he’d expected, she was like a energetic ball of feathers. The cell door creaked
open and two Mud-Claws marched in, taking the bonds off of Rain, then Rose, then
Feather, and lastly Honey. They tossed in two dead fish, “either you can share,
or you can fight over it, but no talking” one of the guards said. “Let them
talk, we can hear what their saying so they can’t keep anything secret from us”
said the other. The guard let out a growl and marched out, the other followed. “Feather!
What are you doing here?!” Honey asked, “umm, I got caught, same as you…”
Feather replied. “Do you know where Rock, Star, Flint, and Katana is?” “KATANA?!?”
Bark-Fur said, “Katana was with you?!” “mhmm” he replied “Was Katana the brown
cub?” Honey asked “probably-“ “Katana was caught?!?” Rose gasped. She was
sitting in the corner sharing a fish with Rain, “I guess” Feather said, “Umm…
do you know were Rock and Flint is?” he asked Honey. “only you and two other
cubs were brought here… If Flint and Rock had been caught they would be in here
with us” she replied. They heard crashing and banging from down the hall, then
a Dart-Tail and a Lava-Scales dashed down the hall, carrying chain’s and bonds.
“What’s going on?” Feather asked trying to see farther down the hall, “I don’t
know… but someone’s obviously fighting” Honey added after hearing yelling and
squacking. The yelling stopped in a instant, and Feather figured the Dart-Tail
had shot the cub with a sleeping dart. Then they heard clanking and clicking, “that
should hold her, she just won’t eat until tomorrow. And if she puts up a fight
again, she’ll have to wait till the next!” grumped the Dart-Tail as it and the
Lava-Scales passed by. “I wonder what that was all about” Bark-Fur said, “no
one’s ever done- what ever they did…” she stopped talking when the Mud-Claw
opened the cell, “alright, chitt-chats over” he announced, “but can we talk
just a little bit longer?” Bark-Fur asked. “No.” was the only reply when he
clamped the bond around all the cubs beaks, then stalked out the cell, slaming
the door behind him.
After for what seemed like years,
listening to Bark-Fur’s squacking. Two Dart-Tail’s dragged Katana past their
cell, she had way more bonds then any of the cubs did. She had bonds on her
wings, talons, neck, back paws, and of corse, her beak. She was dragged on the
dirt floor like a rag, and clearly couldn’t get up or even walk. Then she disappeared
down the hall.
Not too long after, the Lava-Scales
entered their cell carrying a neck bond and a chain. He looked around the room
and his gaze stopped at the corner. Rain trembled as the Lava-Scales stomped
toward him, Honey ran infront of him and growled, but his only response was “Oh!
Shush you!” and he kicked her out of the way. Honey struggled to get back up
again, and Rain winced and weeped and fussed, his tail was tucked down between
his legs and he wouldn’t stand so the Lava-Scales just dragged him out.
Dragging him down the dark hall.
